Funny women writers of the 19th Century are in the Basement this week! Annie Howells Frechette, the sister of noted author William Dean Howells, wrote for many periodicals. From McClure's Magazine, sometime in the late 1890s, comes her delightful tale of a family who learns the perils of being early adopters of advanced technology, 'The Joneses' Telephone.'
