Mister Ron’s Basement # 1874
One of our favorite authors, H. C. Bunner, completed a truly unique project back in 1893. He published a book called ‘Made in France,’ which featured his English-language versions of stories by the noted French author Guy De Maupassant.
These stories were not direct translations by any means. He simply took the themes, or ‘ethical situations’ of each story, and rewrote them completely, and Americanized them.
Today’s story concerns a merry fat innkeeper, paralyzed and at the mercy of his shrewish wife. The title of this tale is ‘Tony,’ and is hysterically funny.
Time: approx twenty-one minutes
