Mister Ron's Basement No. 1939

This week, we have found funny stories taken from W. L. Alden’s early humor column work for the New York Times, and compiled in the 1878 book ‘Shooting Stars.’

In today’s piece, two nasty young men compete for the affections of a lady wielding a bassoon and a cornet. The tale is called ‘Serenading in St. Louis.’

Time: approx nine minutes
